Opennewsportal

Turkey should reverse the decision to jail six journalists for life, the U.N. and OSCE experts on media freedom said in a joint statement, Reuters reports.

"These harsh sentences are an unacceptable and unprecedented assault on freedom of expression and on the media in Turkey," David Kaye and Harlem Desir said in a joint statement issued by the U.N. human rights office.

Earlier, the court in Istanbul found guilty of involvement in attempts at a coup and gave life imprisonment to six journalists of Turkish media. Among the sentenced, in particular, the former chief editor of the newspaper "Taraf" Ahmet Altan and famous journalists Mehmet Altan and Nazli Iliak.

Remind, that brothers Ahmed and Mehmed Altan have repeatedly written in their publications about the need to recognize the Armenian Genocide.
