More People Hold Banking Accounts due to WB
World Bank reports that the number of "unbanked" people has increased sharply. Financial institutions show that between 2011 and 2014 more than 700 million people over the world have access to banking system, which is increase of 11% during 3 years, Ibtimes reports.
According to the WB access to financial services is a way to help people to overcome poverty. Still there are two billion people around the world who do not have access to financial institutions and this is an ambitious goal for WB to bring these people into the system.
There is also gender gap between "unbanked" people. In 2014, 65% of men had a banking account, while women only 58% do. It is also a goal for WB to reduce the gender gap.
