Erdogan Extrudes Peoples’ Democratic Party?

After Turkey started conducting airstrikes against the Islamic State militants in Syria and the PKK fighter in northern Iraq, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan began to accuse the members of Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) for having links with "terrorist groups" and announced that the Kurdish peace process is "impossible."

Besides, referring to the members of HDP, he added that politicians who are connected with "terrorist groups" should be stripped of their legal immunity to prosecution.

In response to this, HDP co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş announced that all 80 of his party members will collectively represent a petition to lift their own immunity on Wednesday, Hurriyet reports.

As it was expected proceedings were opened on Wednesday. The first person who accused Selahattin Demirtas was Suleyman Soylu, vice president of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP). But, in response to this, Demirtas, in his turn, accused Soylu saying that he was the head of a "team of deceit of 3,500" who had been ''involved in gerrymandering in various provinces in Turkey during the country general elections'', Middle East Eye reports.

Shortly after this, the opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) called on the whole Parliament to lift the immunities of all 550 deputies.

"Let everyone be held accountable for their deeds. I call on the AKP and the MHP (Nationalist Movement Party) - let's lift the immunities if you dare,’’ HDP MP Pervin Buldan said.

We should say that this is a unique move in Turkish political history, a blow for Erdogan. Being unsatisfied with the results of parliamentary elections, Erdogan does everything to realize his ambitions of early elections. But how he is trying to do that? The answer is obvious; violating the constitution, massacring his own people by organizing various IS attacks and proving that there is no democracy in his country. It should be said that if the HDP MPs’ immunity is lifted and they are charged, then Turkey will be condemned internationally for persecuting democratically elected MPs.

Turkish democracy is really at risk. The society pays a high price because of its president. Announcing that he is trying to fight against Islamic State Turkey has focused its firepower on its longtime adversary - the PKK.  In this way Erdogan tries two solve several problems - early parliamentary elections, Parliament without HDP, AKP - the majority in the Parliament and then Constitutional changes. Well thought...
