Ban Ki-moon Called for the Preservation of the Status Quo of Jerusalem
The UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon spoke on Monday for the preservation of the status quo in relation to holy sites of Jerusalem and urged Israelis and Palestinians to avoid actions and statements that could exacerbate the situation. This was reported by the press service of the United Nations at the end of a telephone conversation between Ban Ki-moon and the President of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas, TASS reports.
"The Secretary-General stressed that he is much concerned about the incident on the Temple Mount, and called on both sides to lower tensions and prevent escalation of the situation," the communiqué said.
