Abortion Prohibited in Abkhazia

The President of Abkhazia Raul Khajimba signed a law banning abortion in the country, Interfax reports.
The bill prohibiting abortion "On state protection of life of the mother and the unborn child" came into force on February 9. One of the initiators of the adoption of the amendment said that "abortion is an artificial reduction of the already small population of Abkhazia." Since 1993, 11.9 thousand abortions have been done in Abkhazia.
