Armenians and Norwegians Commemorate the Memory of the Genocide Victims

In the park outside Rekstensamlingene in Bergen, Norway, there is a special Armenian memorial, Khatchkar, of Fridtjof Nansen and of the victims of the Genocide of Christian Armenians from 1915-1923, Armenian Cultural Association in Norway reports.

This Khatchkar was a gift to Nansen's homeland from Armenians. Eigil Nansen, a grandchild of Fritjof Nansen, initiated the opening of the Khatchkar in 2007.

Every year on April 24, the Armenians together with Norwegians, gather in front of the Khatchkar to commemorate the memory of the victims of the Genocide.

This year, like the previous year, a local choir called Sangkoret Lyderhorn, was singing an Armenian song by Komitas. Local Norwegians also learned a song by Komitas and performed on that day. The organizer of the event was Martin Davitian from the Armenian Cultural Association in Norway.
