June 1: the History of This Day

June 1 is celebrated as Children’s Day in many countries of the world. The World Conference for the Well-being of Children in Geneva, Switzerland, proclaimed June 1 to be International Children's Day in 1925.  The day is used to bring awareness to children around the globe that have succumbed to violence in forms of abuse, exploitation and discrimination.

International Day of Child Protection has its own flag. Green background (symbol for freshness and fertility) depicted on the sign of the Earth, around which  red, yellow, blue, white and black children are placed. They symbolize diversity and tolerance.

Armenia, just like the rest of the world, celebrated June 1 as International Children’s Day.

This festivity is known in the country as Children’s Rights Day.

Armenia ratified the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1992, and the country’s Law on Rights of the Child was adopted in 1996.

Numerous events are organized on this day throughout Armenia’s regions and capital city Yerevan.

On June 1, in the framework of the RA NA “Open doors” program, sponsored by the RA NA Speaker Galust Sahakyan, on the occasion of International Child Protection Day, a festive event will be held in the park of the National Assembly.
