Are Neither Trump, Nor Clinton Interested in the Armenian Issue and Karabakh Conflict?

The election campaign for the 45-th US president, which lasted one and a half year, came to the finish line. The first results will be clear already in several hours as the elections officially launched today.

According to American analysts, the results of November 8 US presidential election will have a definite influence on Washington's policy towards Armenia and the South Caucasus, in general.

The analyst at the Atlantic Council, former Ambassador John Herbst points out that if the president becomes Hillary Clinton, she will surely give a new impetus to relations with Armenia: ''In regard with Nagorno-Karabakh, I think that former US Secretary Clinton will be interested in the resumption of the conflict settlement process. This, of course, will not be a priority for her, but I am sure that we will see a policy update, which will be conducive to the Nagorno-Karabakh issue''.

As for Donald Trump and his approach to the South Caucasus, the analyst told that he could not imagine that the Republican billionaire would be interested in the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh.

In turn, the ''Hay Dath'' of America made a statement the other day that it does not support any of the two candidates for US president. "Several months ago, Clinton adviser said that Hillary should make a statement on Armenian issues, however, there was no statement at all. And nobody explained why she failed to make a statement. The answer is one: the Armenian community and Armenian issues do not interest them,"  the publisher and editor of "Californian courier", Harut Sassounian said.

According to the "Voice of Armenia", Sassounian said that Hay Dat repeatedly appealed to both candidates to organize a meeting. Such meetings took place with all the presidential candidatesfor 30 years already. But the current candidates did not express such desire.

From US Armenian political parties only Hnchaks announced their intention to support the Clinton candidacy. US citizens of Armenian origin alarmed about Trump's business interests in Turkey and Azerbaijan. As for the argument about the fact that Clinton is well familiar with the situation in the region, and quite aware of the problem of Artsakh and Armenian-Turkish relations, Sassounian recalled the moment Clinton visited Tsitsernakaberd:

"She visited Tsitsernakaberd to lay a wreath, but the next day announced that she did it as a private citizen, not as US Secretary of State. I then wrote an article saying the wreath bore the inscription "Hillary Clinton - US Secretary of State."

The matter is that after Turkish lobbying and protests, she was forced to announce that she acted as a private person. It is hypocrisy, and we do not want to deal with the hypocritical people."
