Is Israel Getting Engaged in Syrian Conflict?
At the request of 9 members of the UN Security Council, on April 9, the US Security Council had a meeting on the alleged chemical attack in Syria.
Earlier, a number of Syrian opposition portals and Al Jazeera citing the militants told about the use of chlorine by Syrian Army in the city of Duma, as a result of which several dozens of civilians were killed.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry stated in this connection that allegations of using chemical weapons by the Syrian army are sad and inconsistent.
The United States and its European allies have accused Syrian government forces of carrying out at least four chemical attacks since 2014. At the same time, the international community has not yet conducted a proper investigation on this issue and there is no evidence that during the Syrian conflict, chemical attacks have been caused by the Syrian army.
It is worth mentioning that Assad's alleged chemical attack in Duma is not proved yet, and that the US administration is already discussing the likelihood of strikes against Syria. Taking into account the fact that in the 2017 as a cause of Syrian Air Force air strike US used ''the chemical attack by Assad's forces in Idlib'', it is not excluded that the news about chemical attack in Duma also serves this very purpose.
After the ISIS defeat, the US-led international coalition has no official basis for intervention in Syria, which, by the way, does not stem from its interests, and the use of chemical weapon and crimes against humanity can ''justify'' US military actions in Syria.
In this context, Israeli air strikes on Syrian Air Force Base in Homs on the night of April 8 are quite noteworthy. There is no explanation in this regard by Tel-Aviv. But most likely the Israeli Air Force has acted in accordance with the United States order.
The possible cause of the Israeli military action is the assessment of Syrian anti-missile forces for the US-led attack.
At the same time, Israel has its own interests in Syria, and it is not accidental that the attacks reached the base, where the Iranian forces were situated. It is not excluded that under the name of fighting against the Iranian influence in Syria, Israel is actively pursuing its military operations in Syria, at the same time supporting the US-sponsored militants. Immediately after the air strikes, Syrian militants tried to break the latter's defense and seize it.
Thus, the tension in Syria is expected to grow in the near future, which, naturally, will have a negative impact on the settlement process.
