PLO Voted for Suspending Security Coordination with Israel

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict shows no signs of being resolved… This time the Palestine Liberation Organisation voted for suspending security coordination with Israel, The Guardian reports. Previously, PLO on different occasions has made statements that it will suspend security coordination with Israel, but this was perceived much as a threat and not a thing that would be realized.

The decision was made during the two-day meeting of Palestinian officials. Though final decision for the implementation of what the council voted for depends on the President of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, he will most likely support it. The statement adopted by the council calls to suspend "all forms of security coordination given Israel’s systematic and ongoing non-compliance with its obligations under signed agreements, including its daily military raids throughout the State of Palestine, attacks against our civilians and properties," – The Guardian reports.

This move comes after the January halt of the transfer of more than $100 million a month in tax revenues by Israel as a response to Palestine’s decision to apply for accession to the International Criminal Court, Reuters reports. This is not the first time Israel withhold transfers, but it lasted only several weeks.

Now it seems that the relative standstill in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict will soon change, because of several factors: first, on April 1 the PLO's formal accession to the International Criminal Court will be marked, which means that Palestine will present cases against Israel. Second, there are upcoming parliamentary elections in Israel and Palestine will do its best to pursue its interests and destabilize the situation in Israel, as during election time any country's attention is mainly focused on one thing – elections. Third, Israel has always shown that it never stays silence to any step done by Palestine. Sooner or later a response will come, though taking into consideration the sensitive timing, the response may be relatively mild.
