Eduard Aghabekyan: the Parliament Must Undertake Actions to Return NKR to the Table of Negotiations

"Armedia" Information, Analytical Agency presents an exclusive interview with the representative of the Movement 88 Party, Eduard Aghabekyan on the upcoming May 3 parliamentary elections of NKR.

 - How would you assess the ongoing election campaign? Are all conditions provided for holding transparent and legitimate elections?

-  Overall the pre-election campaign is normal, of course there were some attempts for creating unequal conditions for the campaign and creating obstacles for our pre-election meetings. These were mainly expressed by providing "bear service" to some heads of governmental institutions and banning their employees to participate in the meetings.

- How would you describe the importance of NKR Parliamentary elections? According to you, can these elections secure progress in the NKR democratization process?

- Of course, any open and transparent elections are a step forward in the process of democratization. First of all, this process is necessary for ourselves and not for just showing it to the international community.

How much will the elections impact the change of the perceptions of the international community and the developments of foreign relations? Can we expect more efforts after the elections on increasing the subjectivity of NKR.

- As for the first part of the question, time will show and for the second part, the Parliament must undertake any actions possible to return NKR to the table of negotiations.

What is your vision of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement?

-  The political settlement of the issue must not lead to the decrease of the present level of security.

What are the main peculiarities of your party compared to others?

- The Party Movement 88 sees Artsakh Republic's security and ensuring its further development within at least the current de-facto borders: including Shahumyan district, Getashen sub-district, Martuni and some parts of Martakert districts.
