NKR Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Elections are Directed to the Organization of Social Life of the Republic

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nagorno-Karabakh Republic came up with a statement concerning the May 3 parliamentary elections. The statement says: "On May 3, 2015 the sixth parliamentary elections in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic took place, in which 70% of the population having the right to vote, participated. The elections were held in free and competitive conditions, in accordance with international standards, which is proved by the assessments of about 100 international observers from 30 countries. The parliamentary elections again proved the fact that the elections, being an indispensable element of any functioning democratic system, became an integral part of political culture of Artsakh.

Free, fair, transparent and competitive elections, being an integral mechanism of political processes in NKR, are directed to the organization of social life of the Republic and the formation of government in a democratic way, which in turn is the basis for the promotion of human rights, fundamental freedoms and the rule of law. Elections are an expression of the will of the people of Artsakh, the role of which is determining their future (clearly underlined in the statement of OSCE Minsk Group on April 30, 2015) are also an important contribution to maintaining stability in the region and towards a just and peaceful settlement of the Azerbaijani-Karabakh conflict."
