Criminal Case against Demirtaş?

On Thursday the Turkish authorities brought a criminal case against the head of the pro-Kurdish HDP Salahattina Demirtaş, TASS reports referring to Anadolu.

Demirtas is charged with "incitement to armed clashes" in October 2014. He may faces imprisonment of up to 24 years. General Prosecutor of Turkey launched an investigation against Demirtaş.

Demirtaş is protected by parliamentary immunity, so the criminal case against him will be opened only after the prosecutor's office has concrete evidence and grounds for charges. If this happens, the prosecutor should try achieving the removal of Demirtaş’ parliamentary immunity through parliament and the Ministry of Justice.

In October 2014 Demirtas, speaking at the rally, urged the population to "take to the streets to protest the massacre in the city of Cobán" in Syria. His actions led to riots in some parts of Turkey as a result of which more than 30 people were killed and over 200 injured, and public property has suffered great losses.
