Russia-Armenia Joint Anti-Aircraft Warfare Systems: Commending will not be Carried out by Russia (EXCLUSIVE)

All anti-aircraft warfare systems in the territory of the Republic of Armenia will be completely under the control of the commander of the Armenian anti-aircraft warfare systems. This was declared by the member of the Armenian National Assembly Tevan Pghosyan in an interview with "Armedia" IAA, commenting on the creation of joint anti-aircraft warfare systems between Russia and Armenia. "I have voted in favor of the agreement in the general discussions, knowing well what opportunities this agreement gives for solving all the technical issues," the MP said, adding that the negative attitude towards the agreement is connected with the fact that most of the time people confuse what "joint" and "common" are. "They will work together, but they won't be a single body," the MP emphasized.

"It is very important to understand how the anti-aircraft warfare systems have worked in cooperation and command execution chain until now. When Russian forces were going to participate in any action, it should be reported to Rostov, from Rostov to Moscow, then the answer came with the same chain. And we know that the uniqueness of the anti-aircraft warfare systems is that decisions should be made within seconds. This chain now is coming out. Now the commander of the anti-aircraft warfare systems gives orders," Poghosyan said.

The creation of joint anti-aircraft warfare systems between Russia and Armenia is now at the level of the discussion of the legislative bodies of both countries. Because of the stance adopted by Russia during the April war the agreement has caused some controversies in Armenia. "I understand that in the current situation, when the society sees that the Russian side has not carried out the obligations of the strategic ally, there is no confidence towards Russia. But this issue is not related to it, as the commanding will be carried out by the Armenian side," Poghosyan said.

In December 2015, Armenia and Russia signed an agreement in Moscow on joining the anti-aircraft warfare systems of the two countries. As experts claim, the agreement will contribute to the strengthening of our country's air defense system.
