Donetsk and Luhansk Suggestions for Constitutional Reforms

The authorities of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk people's republics proposed to discuss the amendments of the Ukrainian Constitution in the next meeting of the Contact Group, Interfax reports. The DPR envoy to the Trilateral Contact Group talks in Minsk Denis Pushilin told Interfax, that as the constitutional reforms in Ukraine are planned to be implemented in 2015, then they suggest already starting its discussions. He also reminded that the agreement signed on February 12 in Minsk also proposed constitutional reforms which would decentralize the country and thus help to the settlement of the conflict.

Thus what the authorities of Donetsk and Luhansk suggest is the following: the basic law of Ukraine should contain such notions as "special status", "certain areas", "certain regions". Moreover, Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics want that the Constitution gave certain regions the right to "unite in free associations creating a common management structures", Russian.rt.com reports. These republics also hope that the new Constitution will give an official status to Russian and other languages of the minorities.
