Vahram Poghosyan: On May 3 We will Fix Another Step Forward Towards the Development of Democracy
"Armedia" Information, Analytical Agency presents an exclusive interview with a representative of Free Homeland Party Vahram Poghosyan on the upcoming May 3 parliamentary elections of NKR.
- Mr. Poghosyan, how would you assess the ongoing election campaign? Are there all conditions provided for holding transparent and legitimate elections?
- The election campaign is coming to an end, and today I can confidently state that the election campaign was competitive, with the rules specific to democratic countries. Equal conditions were provided for all political parties for organizing their campaign and presenting their platforms. I think this has created ground for free and fair elections and I am sure that it will be so.
- How would you describe the importance of NKR Parliamentary elections? According to you, can these elections secure progress in the NKR democratization process?
- First of all Artsakh Republic is a long established fact and it is the time for the international community to reckon with this reality. As for the upcoming elections, I should mention that these elections differ from the previous elections with unprecedented activeness of the parties. The number of the opposition parties exceeds the number of the ruling parties, which should only be welcomed. Thus on May 3 we will fix another step forward towards the development of democracy.
- How much will the elections impact the change of the perceptions of the international community and the developments of foreign relations? Can we expect more efforts after the elections on increasing the subjectivity of NKR?
- The fact that today more than 80 applications from international organizations have been received to carry out observation mission in NKR parliamentary elections, means that this is a special kind of assessment of the fact that these elections will give a new impetus to the ongoing process. As for increasing the NKR subjectivity, I should mention that this question has always been on our agenda and I am sure that there will be new developments in the future.
- What is your vision of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement?
- We see the final settlement of the Karabakh question only through peaceful negotiations, where, the final say should belong to the people. However, I should stress that for having tangible success in the negotiation process the existing format is not enough, it is incomplete and the Karabakh side should a day earlier return as a full participant of negotiations. It is not the first time that the authorities have raised the issue on the highest levels.
- What are the main peculiarities of your party compared to others?
- If we put the political and ideological questions aside, I think the main peculiarities of Free Homeland party is in its being always with people, as our greatest potential is our people. It is not by accidentl, that we have chosen the following motto for the upcoming elections – "Rely on Our Potential."
