NKR Elections as a Tool to Organize the Life and Develop Democracy

Parliamentary elections in NKR formed a government that represents the interests of population and their vision of future. Both political parties and observers marked that the elections were free, transparent and legitimate. This shows that political culture of NKR, its institutions and democracy are well -established and these elections were a step forward towards sustainable democracy.

Electoral process,  according to the reports of the observers, were held in accordance with European standards. 5 of 7 political parties participating were opposition and 3 of the them will be represented in newly elected parliament.

In addition, all parties, except ARF, that is Armenian-wide party, all of them are local parties. In regard with competitiveness of the elections it is  also important that almost all political parties have strong ideological basis.

Especially, taking in consideration that this new parliament will be a professional one, competitiveness and presence of parties with different visions will help the National Assembly to better represent the interests of population and work more productively.

Non-recognition can not be an obstacle for realization of basic rights of people, right to organize the life. Progress in democracy and development of state institutions are important not only for countries prosperity but also for peace, sustainability and security. Elections are being held not for the international community or for their assessment, but for people of NKR, their rights, interests and development of daily life.

Besides, legitimacy of elected authorities are important also for international forces, mediators. It is much easier and more productive to deal with  legitimate elected powers than individuals who do not represent whole population. So, democratic progress should be supported by West. The world should help NKR to develop democracy and increase democratic values in the society, instead of using artificial balances and giving in to Azerbaijani blackmail.

Elections are an important step to self-determination and can not be ignored by democratic world.
