During the Next Years We will Witness Very Interesting Developments Within the EU

The Greek crisis cannot be considered completed for the Greek parliament is expected to vote once again on the bailout issue, and even if the results of the vote are positive again, and the proposals of the creditors are ultimately approved, some new tensions and new challenges cannot but emerge. The process can take quite a long time, and could affect other countries in the European Union, so the "domino effect" in any case cannot be excluded.

Interestingly, both the experts, journalists and the decision-makers themselves had often put aside the fact that this problem is not only a Greek one, but it’s rather a pan-European problem as the European Union has faced some cornerstone hardships during all this process. Will the EU come out from all this more powerful and stronger, or will it stand face to face to new and profound threats and challenges? This is still a question.

This process showed that even within the EU, maintaining the so-called "consensus" and moving according to it becomes more and more difficult. Consequently, lots of people are talking about the need for significant reforms and there is a need to shift from the technical approach to a more substantive approach, otherwise, some issues, among them some very old issues that were withdrawn and pushed back for decades can re-emerge at some point.

This is the current situation, and the EU leaders along with the scientific and academic circles actually have a very clear understanding of it. But one thing is to understand and acknowledge the facts, another thing is to act and to move in the right direction. Thus I think that during the next few years we will witness some very interesting developments within the EU, and I hope - necessary reforms as well.
