Davutoglu: Turkey Does Not Bargain, It is About Humanitarian Values

AA photo

The EU leaders are holding negotiations with Turkey’s Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu in Brussels. They intend to reach a final agreement on migrant issues. With financial aid and political assistance Turkey is ready to return all the illegal refugees that reach the Greek islands.

Despite the fact that some EU Member-States are against the deal, Turkey’s Prime Minister is sure they could come to an agreement. Moreover, Davutoglu says Turkey’s proposal to stop migrants flow to Europe is rather humanitarian than a "bargaining" issue, Hurriyet reports.

In order to share these "humanitarian or European values" Turkey demands 6 billion euros from the EU. Moreover, when Europe speaks about the need to spend the money on migrants’ protection, Turkey’s President Tayyip Erdogan gets angry, calling on Europe to solve its problems instead of giving lessons to Turkey.

And in such circumstances the EU leaders are holding negotiations with Davutoglu. Earlier the President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz said the EU will not speed up the process of visa cancellation for Turkey. In his turn European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said deeper cooperation with Turkey on migrants’ issue cannot become a reason for Turkey’s accession to the EU.

One has to wait till the end of the negotiations to understand how much Davutoglu has succeeded in his bargaining.
