Migrants Demand to Cancel the EU-Turkey Deal

Reuters

Two migrants have filed the first cases with the European Union’s top court seeking to overturn the bloc’s controversial migration crisis deal with Turkey, Hurriyet reports.

The deal between Turkey and the EU was signed in March. Under the agreement all migrants arriving in the Greek islands are eligible to be sent back to Turkey. For each Syrian migrant sent back, another Syrian will be resettled from a refugee camp in Turkey directly to the EU. Under the deal, the EU has committed to accelerate the visa liberalization process and resume the accession negotiations in exchange for Turkey’s help to stop the flow of migrants and refugees into Europe.

However, human rights organizations have been warning that the deal does not provide protection for refugees. They say the deal is discrimination against refugees.

The widespread dissatisfaction among refugees is more than understandable. People, who escape from war disasters, are being sent to Turkey, where they are exposed to various types of violence.  Recently, the Daily Mail reported that Syrian boys are making uniforms in Turkey that apparently find their way to Isis soldiers. According to other sources many women and children are being exposed to sexual violence in these camps. Children are being involved in the activities of terrorist groups.

The arguments in the two applications sent to the EU Court are not disclosed yet. But one may expect that the process will turn into a wider one.
