Erdogan Found a New Reason for Banning Protests

Interesting political events on the eve of the parliamentary elections in Turkey are happening. There is an impression that the country is facing a wave of terror. The incident, when the Turkish prosecutor Mehmet Selim Kiraz was taken hostage, raised a big noise. In separate parts of the country clashes between Turkish security forces and Kurds continue. In the Turkish-Syrian border new incidents are being recorded. The Turkish authorities declare that they are working for preventing the entry of terrorists into Syria.

It is noteworthy that recently the Turkish intelligence authorities warned that Islamic state militants after the defeat in the Syrian city of Cobani moved to Turkey and can plan attacks on foreign diplomatic missions in Ankara and Istanbul, Today’s Zaman reports. According to the Turkish National Intelligence Organization (MİT), in January there were more than 3,000 militants in Kobani, some of whom moved to the Turkish side. Of course, Ankara picks the fruits of its own policies.

However, the Turkish authorities have always been able to benefit from any misfortune. This threat of terrorist attack is being used to stifle the voice of protest in the country. Turkish authorities say they will not tolerate street protests regardless of "who they are and what their purpose is." "There will be no tolerance in relation with those, who without authorization goes to the streets, endangering the security of the country" - Hurriyet Daily News quotes the words of Prime Minister. However, according to Article 34 of the Turkish Constitution, "everyone has the right to peaceful and unarmed demonstrations and marches without prior permission."
