Turkey: Kurdish Massacre Continues

The Turkish government continues its policy of introducing curfews in the southeastern districts. The Kurds are alarming: under the pretext of ensuring security, the Turkish authorities kill local Kurdish population.

The Education Ministry sent text messages to teachers working in the Cizre and Silopi districts of Şırnak province, calling them to leave the districts. The messages said they would be included in an in-service training program. But nobody in Turkey believes this.

Idris Baluken, the parliamentary group deputy chairman of the pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), slammed the text messages sent to the teachers in Cizre and Silopi, saying that the withdrawal of the teachers from those districts clearly shows the extent to which the ongoing war in the region has reached, Today’s Zaman reports.

Baluken said that the ministry has proved that "the law of war" is underway in the region. Calling such practices "fascism", Baluken said: "There have been attempts of massacres by the state in Diyarbakır and Mardin for days. There are losses of lives".

In his turn, the pro-Kurdish party’s spokesman Ayhan Bilgen said the ministry's text messages to the teachers clearly shows that the government is not trying to find any solution to the existing problem, but instead is trying to deepen the problem. He also added that the fundamental rights and freedoms, particularly the right to life, are being restricted unconstitutionally in the Southeast.

The opposition is also against the governmental actions.  Particularly, speaking to Today's Zaman, Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Deputy Chairman Oktay Ozturk blamed the government for the current unrest in the Southeast. In his turn, Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) Deputy Chairman Sezgin Tanrıkulu said Turkey has been undergoing the most severe crisis in recent history regarding its long-standing Kurdish issue.

But Turkey’s Prime Minister has just the opposite opinion. Ahmed Davutoglu says Turkey is conducting the heaviest, but most successful fight against terror.

Media, however, does not mention whether the messages concerned to Turks or Kurds. In any case the fact is that Turkish authorities carry out massacres against Kurds - an unchanged policy that they used 100 years ago against Armenians. Not being punished for that great crime against humanity, Turkey continues with the same spirit, hoping or even being sure that this time also it will not answer for its wrongdoings. It is up to the international community whether much kind of massacres will happen another 100 years later or not. It is time to stop for a while, think and take steps, otherwise everything would be worse than we imagine...
