The Future of Greece Depends on Sunday's Summit

The Greek issue is still in limbo. This time Sunday is supposed to be the deadline for finally resolving the problem. This was announced on Tuesday at a regular summit of EU leaders by the European Council President Donald Tusk, who agreed with his counterparts that before Sunday’s summit on July 12, Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras should present a detailed plan of the new reforms to the EU leaders, The New York Times reports.

The aim, according to the Greek Prime Minister, is to secure a financially sustainable and fair agreement that will include reliable and socially just reforms. In exchange, Greece asks for a bridge program to cover immediate funding needs, a growth package to address the major problems, as well as to begin talks on the necessary debt restructure.

During the meeting with the Greek President Prokopis Pavlopulosin, Prime Minister Tsipras told him that they wanted to present a project to the EU, which would help to avoid GREXIT, putting an end to the crisis at the same time.

"I am very pleased with how the other European leaders recognized that the problem is European, rather than Greek,'' Tsipras stressed, tovima.gr writes.

The Pavlopulosin in turn noted that it was essential to clarify that the people’s verdict in Sunday’s referendum was not a rift with Europe, but rather a call to resume negotiations, with the ultimate goal being to secure Greece’s firm position in Europe and the Eurozone.

However, the main objective of the current phase for the Greek is to reduce their debts as much as possible and to get some financial aid to implement the reforms that are going to be proposed. The goal of the EU leaders, on the other hand, is not to ''spoil'' Greece by making too many concessions for them.

However, both sides acknowledge that they should reach an agreement and continue the cooperation by all means, at least for the reason that the US repeatedly urges them to do so while Russia in turn is waiting to appear at the right moment on the right place to ''help'' Greece and Greeks out of this situation.
