Greek Prime Minister Presents His Policy Statements

The newly elected Prime Minister of Greece, Alexis Tsipras has underlined in his recent speech to the Greek Parliament, how the next twenty months will be crucial in the implementation of priorities for his government, outlining three immediate priorities for his coalition government.

According to Tsipras, the main priorities of his country are reducing the debt by way of extending payments, reducing interest rates and introducing a growth clause and long grace period; recapitalizing the banks and establishing a special body that will be tasked with creating the necessary framework to attract private investments and encourage local brands and entrepreneurs, To Vima reports.

''Our aim is to have set the conditions for a new Greece by the end of our 4-year term, which will be a difficult but a promising political period full of challenges,'' Tsipras mentioned, ''Today we have succeeded in securing the country’s economic stability and to finally end the discussion on a grexit''.

According to Protothema, the Prime Minister also added that the new deal with Greece’s creditors created an indisputably more favorable fiscal framework, with margins to use resources to support growth.

Besides Tsipras stressed that he will pursue a greater cooperation with ''progressive forces'', arguing that the broadest possible consensus is necessary. The matter is that in his speech Mr. Tsipras tried to keep the doors of cooperation open with the opposition for a series of issues, such as education, changing the electoral law and the constitutional review.

This clearly shows that the political system of Greece may overcome the divisive conflicts of previous years, which greatly contributed towards extending the crisis and its consequences. However, only the time will show whether these intentions are implemented via specific initiatives or with something else, so that people have hope that these new sacrifices were worth.
