Irina Grigoryan: European Observers note that they have a Lot to Learn from Artsakh

  •  NKR

The 6th Parliamentary elections in Nagorno-Karabakh Republic were different from the previous ones in a number of positive ways. The first peculiarity is the more positive attitude of Artsakh people towards the parliamentary elections. The elections proved that the Artsakh people have managed to develop an acknowledgment that democratic elections are among the most important processes towards the further development of the country. In this context it was not by chance that Artsakh people congratulated each other on the day of elections as they do it for the holidays.

The higher percentage of participation in 2015 parliamentary election (70.6 %) as compared to the percentage of participation in 2010 elections also speaks of the more serious attitude of Artsakh people towards the elections in the country. Another important fact to be mentioned is that the number of candidates was higher for this election, 184 people, 41 of whom were women,  according to the data of NKR Central Electoral Commission.

As another achievement it should be mentioned that as a result  of 2015 parliamentary election a professional parliament is to be formed. In talk to "Armedia" Information Analytical agency commenting on the results of the election the president of "Artsakh Institute of Popular Diplomacy" NGO Irina Grigoryam particularly noted:

The elections once more proved that the level of democracy is rising year by year in Artsakh. The fact that as a result of elections 5 parties were presented in the Parliament, opposition included, is already an advantage and speaks of that fact that the elections were organized in free and fair manner. Another achievement is the fact that as a result of the elections professional parliament is to be formed. There is no doubt that in the professional parliament the discussions will be more focused and would address the problems of Artsakh people more specifically.

NKR 2015 elections were also unique by the high number of international observers. Commenting on this Irina Grigoryan particularly noted: "The European observers note that they have a lot to learn from Artsakh"

Conclusively it should be stated that 2015 NKR parliamentary elections proved that NKR is steady in its steps towards developing a democratic state where each resident is responsible for his or her future.
